My favorite activities

One of my favorite activities is taking a cruise on the Grand Lady on one of our most beautiful waterways – the Niagara River. It’s picturesque and soothing.

5 Things I love about Buffalo
  1. I love Lake Erie. I love the fact that you can see Canada on the other side. I especially love driving past the lake early in the morning watching the high school rowing clubs practice. It’s mesmerizing watching their rhythmic stokes against the backdrop of our beautiful lake. It never fails to make me happy.
  2. I love the fact that what we call a traffic jam amounts to a five-minute delay.
  3. Buffalo is bejeweled with exquisite churches.
  4. Buffalo is nicknamed the City of Good Neighbors. Just last night, after working a 14-hour day I returned home to find my driveway and walkway cleared of snow. Anonymously, one of my neighbors plowed it.
  5. Buffalo has the best pizza, wings, neighborhood pubs, spectacular seasons and wonderful cultural attractions, but I have to say I adore Buffalo Bills fans. Win or lose, they fill Ralph Wilson Stadium and cheer on our beloved team. Go Bills!

My favorite local hidden treasures you shouldn’t miss

Free stuff! There is so much to do for free, like the Juneteenth Festival and the Pine Grill Reunion for jazz and blues afficionados. Some of my favorites include: Toyfest, Thursdays at the Square, the Roycroft Festival, the Garden Walk or just strolling down Elmwood Avenue any time of the year.

My perfect day spent in the Buffalo-area

One Saturday a friend and I hopped in the car and made the easy 30-minute ride from Buffalo to East Aurora. It was the sweetest girls-day-out. We had a blast in Vidler’s 5 & 10. We found things long forgotten like the entire Gumby and Pokey toy collection. We strolled up and down historic Main Street, weaving in and out of unique boutiques. Then off to Pink to find more than a few of our favorite things. Of course we had to stop by the whimsically eclectic West End Gallery. There too we found a million things we wanted to buy. All the walking worked up an appetite. Where should we go for lunch? Taste or the Roycroft Inn or one of the other neat restaurants in town? All in all it was the perfect day: friendly people, a good friend and fun shopping!
